School

So my classroom was a blank canvas this year. My furniture hadn't arrived yet ... neither had the toys for the children.  Well, it makes for great before and after photos!  The entire classroom has been filled with mostly donated items, dollar store finds and some standard issue kindergarten furniture.  With a little imagination we have turned it into a magical learning environment.

We had only received a few furniture pieces.

These frames were purchased at the dollar store and hung using 3M picture hanging strips.  I simply use sticky tac to display the student's work.  Underneath, I have a "under construction sign:" in case a student piece is missing or I am in the middle of changing the display.

I really wanted a way to hang student work.  We are not permitted to hang items from the ceiling.  As a way to get around my school's fire codes, I simply added the frame of a garden tent.  I got it for free (bonus) because the canvass had been ruined.  Now we can dangle any mobiles or other art projects from the frame.  I've used lanterns, plastic table clothes, mini lights, shower curtains, streamers, pom poms, garland etc. to dress the area up and change it depending on the interest in the classroom.

This is where our school goal is displayed and our agenda for the week.  We simply use dry-erase markers on the frame glass to communicate our intentions for the week.  We run a play-based program, so we find this is an easy way to keep our schedule fluid as it is ever-changing!

Polar Unit


We are currently doing a project based unit on the North pole.  The children read a "Magic Tree House" book about polar bears.  It was full of interesting facts about polar bears.  A perfect place to start our inquiry and begin our research.

An igloo is the perfect place to snuggle in and enjoy a book!
